When I'm traveling, the first thought is always food. Not just because I love food (though that is certainly the case), but because there's a fair amount of planning (and fear) that I put in to finding good gluten free places to eat. Something that alleviates that fear is having a backup plan in case something falls through, or in case my ever-prevailing hunger manages to force me in to snacking between meals.
Check out my favorite 5 snack and protein bars to bring with me when I travel. All of them are available on Amazon, so you can even ship them to your destination if you don't have room in your luggage! Though I always enjoy having the extra space for souvenirs or less than perfect packing on my way home.
1. NoGii Bars
These bars delicious, have no added sugar (making them paleo), and come in several different flavors. I love the "Nuts About Berries" which are the perfect afternoon snack with both natural sugar and protein.
2. Luna Protein Bars
For more of a candy-style protein bar, I go for Luna Protein Bars. While these do have added sugar, they're still gluten free and are a great solution to grabbing a completely unhealthy candy bar from an airport or train snack stand. They also have several flavors, my favorite of which being the peanut butter, because it loosely resembles a Reece's cup.
3. Peel-A-Part Tropical Fruit Strips
These aren't a snack bar per say, but they are a fantastic, easy to grab (and incredibly small, making for easy packing) snack. With no added sugar we're back in the paleo category again, and they also come in several snacks. I discovered these in Go-Picnic's Gluten Free Ready-to-Eat Meals, which are basically an adult lunchable. They're also great for emergency travel food!
4. Kind Bars
Kind bars are a great option for travel. Not only are they good to pack, but they're also available at most Starbucks, snack stands, and convenience stores. The most popular ones have whole nuts in them, but I also really like the Healthy Grains kind. They do contain gluten free oats, so be sure you're stomach and intestine are comfortable with them before packing a bunch.
5. Health Warrior Chia Bars
These were recently discovered by co-worker of mine, and I'm completely obsessed with them. They're vegan, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and have no added sugar! They do have grain so they're not paleo, but they're super delicious.
