Traveling in spring and summer is great! But knowing what to wear on a flight at this time can be tricky. If you’re flying to or from somewhere warm, your instincts may tell you to go with a dress or shorts, but chances are you’ll soon be freezing on the plane wishing you’d packed a parka (I’ve done that one too many times). Now, I pack a dress or shorts to change into if it’s going to be truly smoldering where I’m landing, but opt for mid-level layers when it comes to the flight itself.
With all this in mind, I give you my favorite travel outfit for the spring and summer that keeps me warm in the plane without making me sweat when I arrive at my destination! I tend to opt for neutrals when I travel so I can mix and match as much as possible. All these items are things I’ll usually use at least 2 more times within a trip. Check it out:
Comfy pants or leggings
My favorite are Uniqulo Legging Pants. They feel like leggings but look like proper pants. And they're incredibly economical!
I used to wear Converse almost daily. Due to a developing need for better arch support, now I go for TOMS Paseos. My favorite thing about them is that they're easy to slip on and off for security and longer flights, and that they are comfortable for walking long distances. If I need to be dressier after landing, I'll pack my favorite TOMS booties to change in to.
Thin Circle Scarf
I always wear a scarf because it's an easy way to add some color to an otherwise "groutfit" (all grey outfit) and can double as a small pillow for snoozing.
Thin sweater or long sleeve tee
My favorite travel top is an old H&M sale bin grab that's no longer available. BUT I also love the Threads 4 Thought long sleeve v necks. I opt for long sleeves that can be pushed up in warmer weather, rather than layers, because it tends to mean less to carry or potentially leave sitting on a plane.
If I'm planning to work on a flight, I put my eye mask in my checked bag so I'm not tempted to snooze. But if I actually want to sleep, an eye mask is something I personally need. Not everyone does though! I usually use one I got as a freebie with some Victoria's Secret pajamas a while back. If you want a travel specific one, check out Flight001’s designs!
I highly advise using a neutral that goes with as much of the clothing you're planing on using as possible. I'm an Essie brand-loyalist, but any neutral will work. I do suggest packing whatever color you use, so you can touch up any chips that will inevitably occur over your trip.
I always wear earrings as they help me feel more pulled together. But when flying I choose studs so they won’t snag on things while moving quickly or sleeping at contorted angles on plane
Even if I'm wearing my hair down, I bring a hairtie or 2 just in case. I like the loser elastics that don't leave a kink in my hair so I can wear it down again if I want to once I'm off the plane.
