I’ve lived in Denver the majority of my life. I didn’t go to college there and I’ve lived in several other states since graduating, but it will always be my first home. Denver (and Boulder for the sake of this post) has been at the forefront of gluten free eating. It’s one of the easiest places to find food. And as fantastic as that is, it can be a bit difficult to see through the fog and find the amazing food Denver has to offer. In a city with this many options, just having gluten free bread doesn’t mean it’s the best choice available to you. Here are some of my favorites!
Craft burgers with great gluten free buns, and separate fryers for regular and sweet potato fries.
Another great burger joint, known for their signature sauce (it’s fantastic!) and ecofriendly practices.
A Denver staple for quick Mexican Grill style food. Their queso is seriously to die for.
This is somewhat of a hidden gem in the Denver Tech Center neighborhood. They have great gluten free pastas and homemade sausages and deserts.
This place is absolutely amazing. Entirely paleo, meaning you can eat whatever you want, it will be safe, and you don’t have to feel bad about it. Their bunch is where it’s at. Think waffles made from cashew flour batter, sugar free caramel sauce made from almonds, and the only good bullet coffee I’ve ever had. Well worth the drive if you’re in Denver.
This is a staple Mexican food place in a great location. The staff is very knowledgeable and they have special gluten free chips that don’t go in their fryer.
This is a fantastic prohibition style bar that event still has the pie shop out front it used as a diversion. While I can’t speak for the food, the bartenders have incredible knowledge of gluten free alcohol. If you go with the “bartender’s choice” on the menu, you can tell them what kind of flavors you don’t like, that it needs to be gluten free, and they’ll create an amazing drink for you!
Little Man Ice Cream
Adorable location in LoHi (it’s literally a giant milk can). They have lots of flavors and the staff is super helpful. They usually have gluten free cones too, which is a nice treat!
Formerly ModMarket, now ModernMarket has gluten free flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, and soups. They also have a great brunch! Everything is marked clearly on the menu. I highly recommend the Thai Coconut Salad.
Tokyo Joes is a local chain that specializes in fast Japanese food. They have gluten free teriyaki sauce which is so hard to find.
Sylvi’s Kitchen (Udi's)
This restaurant is owned by the same folks that run Udi's, that mainstream gluten free brand we've all come to know. They have great smoothies and lots of safe options at several locations around the Denver area.
Insanely long wait but the gluten free donut holes are 100% worth it. Also a pretty awesome atmosphere.
They have a clear menu and you write your order down so you can include any information directly for the kitchen without possible human error.
I have gone to Snooze every time I’ve been in Denver since 2011. I also have one of their shirts. That’s how much I love it. Go there, eat all the yummy gluten free goodness, be happy. The end.
This is another Denver favorite for Mexican currently in Jefferson Park but moving South of I-25 soon. There are hour and a half waits on Monday nights; it’s crazy. You can make a reservation which I definitely recommend. Absolutely delicious!
