Going to school out of state means I wind up doing a lot of travel, especially in the winter months. I'm currently writing this during a layover in Chicago O'Hare, after eating a $14 dollar salad and buying a $5 bottle of water. It's like they know we're all stuck and have no other options or something...
When I'm traveling, particularly to and from school, comfort is key for me. I've seen some articles recently hating on my generation for not dressing up when we fly. Have you seen how packed together they're making the seats these days? I'm gonna wear leggings and you're gonna deal with it.
Here's a variation on some of my favorite pieces that I wear when I'm doing a lot of flying.
I'm ALWAYS cold when I fly, so I like to wear big comfy sweaters, or at least pack on in my bag. The one I'm currently wearing is from Lauren Conrad's LC for Kohl's collection. It's super soft and I bought it 2 sizes to big just to maximize comfort.
I'm wearing my classic cotton leggings with knit tights under them for warmth. Leggings are the best for flying! You feel like you're not even wearing pants but everyone thinks you're cute and pulled together: win, win.
My favorite scarf to fly with is an infinity scarf that was actually knitted for my by my friend and roommate, Jenn! Good luck finding one as soft and made-with-love as this one.
I love flying with hats for 3 reasons. 1) they keep you warm. 2) they keep your hair from sprawling out of control when you're running to catch a flight. 3) they double as a small pillow when you have the window seat and inevitably doze off when you're supposed to be working. My favorite is a few years old from H&M.
I always wear my boots, mostly because I don't want to waste valuable suitcase space. On the plus side, they also make getting through security super easy! DSW has a bunch of styles and colors for far cheaper than you'd find at a department store.
This is my new obsession. Not lipstick, that's been a thing for years, but I was recently introduced to Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color, and it is actually awesome. You apply the color once in the morning and it lasts all day. I'm not kidding. Completely serious, here. All. Day. You just apply the chapstick that comes with it over it throughout the day to keep your lips from being chapped but the color stays on. This is FANTASTIC for travel because you don't have to worry about smearing it or forgetting to pack it in your carry on. It's also super cheap, which is a definite plus. I use the natural blush color, but they have every shade you ca think of.
I like to use a neutral that can be easily matched with a cheap drugstore color when I'm on the go in case they get chipped. My new favorite is Sand Tropez by Essie. It's dark enough for winter but doesn't stand out too much, and goes with everything.
Last but not least, I suggest always traveling with cheap-ish studs. It's really easy to lose one and the smaller they are the easier sleeping in strange places, and getting through security, will be. I'm wearing a pair from my Charming Charlie Pearls Please Trio.
